Help ripping dvds onto iTunes and iPhone

Hi I'm new hear but I wanted to ask a question, I'm trying to rip my dvd collection onto iTunes then my iPhone. I need a software for windows where it could rip my dvds into the best quality and the correct format. If anyone would supply some names and some directions to rip them it would be really helpful.

I've ripped my whole collection in APPLETV preset, now that wont play on my ipod touch. DO I need to rerip?
