Help, script for exporting ical calendar

I tried searching the formum and google searches for an applescript or using automator to export 1 (or more) calendars to an .ics file. Although I have found a few, they were written back in 2005 or 2007 for older OS x version and don't work for me when I try them (I'm on Snow Leopard). I'm a newbie to Mac but I have tried multiple times to use Automator to 'Learn' and then clicked my way through iCal menus to manually do an export. Automator appears to have captured the correct sequence, but when I run it, Automator quits with an error (which I can't figure out).

Does anyone have an Applescript to do this on OS X 10.6.8? Or has anyone successfully used Automator to do an iCal export.
