Hi folks,

I'm looking to get a new wireless router and was hoping you could help me make the choice. I'm pretty familiar with a lot of tech, but wireless & networking is definitely my weak point.

Here are the requirements/questions:
  • Dual band
  • Streaming 1080 to an aTV3
  • Is there a max 802.11n speed aTV can receive?
  • USB port for attached storage (Will this connection be fast enough to stream 1080 to aTV?)
  • Are any routers capable of supporting a USB bus-powered hard drive?
  • I've heard some mixed reviews about some routers because they won't spin down an attached hard drive. It'd be great to find a router than deals with a drive well.
  • Preferably max $150. Beyond that gets to where I would consider cutting out features over paying more.

My list currently has:
  • Netgear WNDR4300
  • Linksys Smart Wi-Fi Router N750
  • D-Link Cloud Router 2000

Any helpful discussion is seriously appreciated! :D

Airport Extreme. It's a great router that'll fit your budget and needs. Plus it's very easy to configure and very reliable.

I don't know why I totally overlooked Apple's options...

Can anyone attest to streaming 1080p video (decent bitrate) from a drive attached to an Airport to an aTV? Is its USB port powered?

Our router is dying as well. I've been considering an Airport Extreme as well. I doubt that Apple will refresh it this week, but hope they do.
