Help Selecting New HD for 1st gen Intel MacBook

Digital Saki

macrumors newbie
So I am finally going to replace my stock HD on my 2006 1st gen intel MacBook(black).

I absolutely must run VMware fusion Win7 smoothly in addition to surfing & downloading. Looking for a robust drive that wont break the bank.

New egg has a HITACHI Travelstar H2IK5001672SP (0S02858) 500GB 7200 RPM 2.5" SATA 3.0Gb/s Internal Notebook Hard Drive for $69.99

this seems like a hell of a buy!

Should I go with this one or can someone recommend something else that suits my needs?

THanks!

Your issue with VMWare will be a lack of RAM, which unfortunately you can't increase to more than 2GB on your computer. If it runs fine for you now, you have no need to worry though. In any case, that drive will work perfectly fine.

I actually installed 4g ram on it. However, I was told that my model can only read 3g ram yet in system profiler it plainly states 4g.

Anyhow....I checkout eshop.macsales.com & they have the same model along with replacement harddrive kit to transfer everything for only 20 bucks more.

Considering that I dont have a backup HD to transfer my info this looks like a more encompassing deal.

Anyone know of some other good deals?
