All iPads Help setting up Air!

Hey guys! Im upgrading from my iPad 2 to the 1st gen Air. Im at the restore from iCloud area but my air says it needs the newer version iOS to restore from my backups. How do I do this? Is there a way without having to go through iTunes?

You can select set device up as new, go into settings and update the software. Then go in to settings after the update and hit erase all content and settings. Then setup from the backup of your iPad 2
