Hi i have just bought an iphone i have no idea how to set up mail for my orange account, so far i go to other and have to enter incoming mail server, host name usernamw etc HELP!!!

I'm hoping you're on Orange UK (i work there so these tips should help)

Is it an "XXXXXXXXXXX@orange.net" email address??

Tap "Settings"
Tap "Mail, Contacts, Calendars"
Under Accounts tap "Add New" then "Other"

Name = Your Name
Address = Your Email Address
Password = Your Email Address Password
Descrion = Your Choice

It wont be able to auto fill the settings and will bring you to the New Account page.

make sure you select "POP" at the top
Incoming Mail Server = pop.orange.net
Username = your login information
Password = [should already be filled with dots]

Outgoing Mail Server = smtp.orange.net
Username = [leave blank for now]
Password = [leave blank for now]

If you get an error regarding SSL, you should select YES to try again without SSL.

It's very important that you have your APN (access point) set to
orangeinternet
One Word & Lower Case

To check this follow
Settings > General > Network > Cellular Data Network
APN = as above
Username & Password should be left empty

It will now verify and you should be setup correct after this.

Let me know if this helps at all

thanks for replying . yeah orange UK, but its a ......@fsmail.net account. does this mean what you suggested doesnt work?

ok so i did the things you suggested, it asked me bout ssl i said yes then a msg csn up saying, the pop server pop.orangenet is not responding. check ur network connection and thsat u entered the correct info in the incoming mail server field

Don't panic :)

The access point meerly tells your phone where to look on the network to get the internet data from... well the internet. Lol

It's technical and you needn't worry about it.

As long as you can surf the web via Safari on your phone then it's setup correctly.

Bad news on the email front I am afraid.
I phoned a colleague for you you to get the Server Address's and it seems that email addresses which end in @fsmail.net are WEB Based only.

This means they are similar to Hotmail and you will only be able to access your emails via a web browser.

You should be able to get them via the web-broswer on the iPhone though. Just open Safari and pop along to www.orange.co.uk and use the login area in the top right hand corner to get your emails exactly as you would on your PC. Just know that you'll probably encounter a lot of "pinch-zooming".

aww thats a bit wick! aww well, yeah thats just what i have been doing. Seriously thanks for replying, ive actually never been on a forum in my life! lol thanks for all your help and advice!

My pleasure, and welcome to the MacRumors.

For what it's worth unless you're exceptionally fond of you fsmail.net email I'd recommend changing over to Google Email.

You'll get a better experience on the iPhone as you can use the Mail App that's "built right in" to the phone, and when you look online via a web browser it'll be perfectly synced to the phone. Plus, last time I looked it's free email too.

Setting up Orange Fsmail.net email on iPhone

This is my first visit to MacRumors and first time I've had usage of an iPhone! I too have an Orange Fsmail.net email account which I'd like to be able to set up on my new iPhone. I am wondering if it is still the case that fsmail.net accounts can only be web-accessed. I thought this was true of Hotmail accounts also but I have a hotmail.co.uk account that has been set up to deliver emails directly to my iPhone (I've no idea quite how!). Many thanks for any input on this.
