I was on my computer and went to play some music but there was no sound, the volume meter would go up and down when i would hit the keys on the keyboard but it would not get louder and no sound would come out.

So i restarted the computer and tried the sound again but now when i press any of the sound up/down/mute keys this comes up

Hi,

did you try using Disk Utility (/Applications/Utilities/Disk Utility.app) to repair disk permissions? It's one of those magic tricks that make a lot of problems go away.

Question 2: Is there a red light coming out of your headphone jack?

Problem fixed i just zapped the PRAM and im good to go now

same problem

I have been having the same problem. Sometimes when I turn on my computer it makes the "BONG" sound, but then no sound works after that. Usually I can restart and the sound comes back, other times it does not work. I ran the repair disk and it fixes the problem, but then next time I turn on the computer there is no sound again. The first time the Disk repair fixed permissions, but now all it says is "ACL found but not expected in Library." Any ideas on what is going on?

ACL errors are fine on your powerbook. I remember reading this somewhere on apple's site. As for the other problem have you tried reseting the PRAM and or the PMU?
