Help - Spinning circle and duplicated text messages

Ever since one of the updates I couldn’t tell you which one, there is always a little circle thing like my phone is thinking all of the time. My friends and family say when I text them once they get it numerous times. I don’t know if one has to do with the other. I would appreciate if anyone has any knowledge on why this circle keeps spinning round and round. And why my friends are getting numerous messages. Thank you everyone or anyone
