It just happened today. I can put in any dvd or cd even blank ones and its like it won't even attempt to read (no spinning noise). I don't know what to do. It's an iMac g4 1.0ghz superdrive and it ejects fine. Any help would be amazing. I restarted, shutdown, and now i'm repairing disc permissions. I hope this isn't the end of the superdrive.

Also, any guesses on how much it would be to replace the superdrive?

Hello, if this still has the problem since earlier today it would cost a few hundred to have an Apple repair fix it. If you just bought an external drive about $100.
Have you tried different media (cd's/dvd's) and does it do it on all of them or just a few? Try using the hardware disc and see if it reads that. If not then it maybe time for a new drive (do you use it a lot?)
God luck and let us know how it works out ;)
