Help: Sync Issue with itunes

For some reason, one by one, my PC USB ports are having a harder and harder time being recognized by itunes.

I plug in my iphone or ipad, and windows recognized the devices but itunes says it had trouble connecting to the device.

During sync some apps do not update because of any unknown error.

This is across different USBs plugs in different hubs as well as the USB jacks hardwired into the PC case. I have also tried multiple cables.

Any thoughts on what is causing this and how to correct the problem?
