Seems that my gremlins have returned.

I bought an external hard drive enclosure and an 80Gb drive to go in it. When I put it all together yesterday I had terrible trouble getting it to work, the drive would spin constantly and the LED in the USB cable would flash constantly, but there'd be no hard drive activity and it wouldn't show up on the desktop.

Eventually and for no apparent reason, it mounted and I moved some stuff over to it (all my music, movies and photographs). Then I shutdown and unplugged to take my PB off to college. I plugged it back in today and nothing at all happened. I've tried turning the enclosure off/on, unplugging it from the power, switching it between USB ports, unplugging my modem from the other USB port. Nothing I try has so far made it work.

If anyone has any ideas I'm going to give it a try, but otherwise I'm sending the enclosure back and getting a FireWire one to put the drive in.
