Help to jailbreak & unlock my iPhone 3GS

Hello everyone!

I have a question and I hope you can help me.

I have an iPhone 3GS, 4.2.1, 05.15.04 and I want to unlock it.

I am planning to backup all my files with iTunes, then jailbreak it and the unlock it with RedSn0w.

I understand that this will change my broadband to 06.15 and the risks.

My question is:
If something goes wrong with the Jailbreak and I need to reinstall the stock firmware using the iTunes backup, will I be able to bring back my iPhone to the same state before jailbreak (including broadband 05.15)?

I have read that after installing RedSn0w the GPS might now work properly.

Sorry that baseband can't be unlocked! except by installing the ipad baseband 6.15 I don't recommend that.. sell it buy one that can be or contact the carrier.. once you install the Ipad baseband there is no removing it..

No, you can not downgrade the baseband.

Redns0w is jailbreaking tool and not unlocking tool.

As for your question above, once you put on Ipad baseband 06.15, there is no way to go back to your old baseband.

1. Upgrade to iOS 4.3.x and then jailbreak it and unlock it...
2. Upgrade to iOS 5 and then jailbreak and unlock it...
3. Is it possible to unlock the iPhone without jailbreaking it?

I'd really appreciatte any tips or ideas.

You do not understand the risks either.

The following is straight from the dev team;

Attention 3GS Users - STOP - READ!!

DO NOT install the iPad baseband on the 3GS.

1.) It has been confirmed to permanently damage the built-in radio hardware on newer 3GS models.
2.) There are abnormal signal issues with the iPad baseband while running iOS 5.0.x.
3.) Ultrasn0w has not been updated to work with 5.0.1 at this time anyway.
4.) You cannot revert to any other baseband version once installed - period!
5.) The native GPS functionality will be inoperable.
6.) Restores require custom firmware versions - no stock restore option.

This "solution" had it's time when it was released, (with iOS 4.x.x) but Apple has thwarted this now - in a permanent way.

If you need your iPhone 3GS unlocked with ultrasn0w, sell it and find either a factory unlocked model, or one with baseband version 5.13.04 or lower.

1. If you don't have SHSH blobs save, you can't upgrade to 4.3.X because Apple has stopped signing this. Apple currently signs 5.0.1 and that the only firmware you can upgrade to.
2. See my above answer.
3. This is possible if your carrier is willing to do this for you. If you live in the US and the phone originally come from Apple/AT&T, you are out of luck because they will not unlock it for you.
