I went to an Apple retailer today and they told me that my white macbook 2.4 GHZ, 4GB Ram won't support a 500GB hard drive. So i got a 320GB.

Is it true that the white macbook 2008 model(2.4GHZ, 4GB Ram) doesn't support 500GB hard Drive.

Thx.

That's incorrect. Your MacBook will support a 500GB HDD as long as it's SATA 2.5" and does not exceed the height maximum of 9.5mm. Which Apple retailer was it? (just curious) -GDF

I'm in Taiwan!! Maybe it was a language problem!! But they told me the system wouldn't support 500GB. I thought it was weird but i then decided to go with a 320GB. I really wanted a 500GB. I guess they wanted me to save money lol!!

Early on the larger 340 and 500gb drives came in a slightly thicker package than the 9.5mm maximum many MACs will take. These are now commonly available in a 9.5mm package though and actual capacity was never an issue.

Yeah, the MacBook definitely will support a 500GB if it's the right physical size. In fact, the drive that is currently the only 7200RPM drive at 500GB fits the MacBooks perfectly.

Do you happen to know what drive this is? I've been looking to upgrade to 500GB and have been having trouble finding one that is the right size.
