Please read carefully. I know it is a bit lengthy.
I am finally making the move to retire my PC for a new iMac. Over Six years ago when I got my MacBook Pro I went through this so I used a text editor and edited the .itl file to change the path etc. Ultimately it worked fine but it has been so long that I forgot what I did. Essentially, I want to transfer my entire iTunes library from my PC to my Mac. My current MacBook Pro iTunes library is the same for music as my PC but does not have my huge movie and home video collection in the library.
The other thing is I am going to have to rename the paths for the media files. I have assigned letters to various drives on my PC where the various files are located. This is what I have on my PC now:
For my primary home:
All music including my iTunes folder is located in My Music folder located on a separate internal hard drive labeled D: I would like my music folder to remain on the Mac internal drive because it is about 75GB.
My movie collection which is over 2TB and my home Videos are located on a network drive labeled X:
All this streams to my AppleTV.
I would like the iTunes library on my Mac to point to all my movies and home videos on the network drive.
For my secondary beach house:
I will have a 6TB external hard drive connected to a mac I am using as a media server and I want to transfer my iTunes library to that mac locating the media in a similar fashion as my primary home except the movies and home movies will be on the external drive instead of a network drive.
With the PC it was easy because I would assign the external drive and network drive as X:
I also do not let iTunes manage my media, but instead I do it manually.
Please advise how I can make this transition to the Mac.
