Ok so when I tried updating Yosemite from my Beta to the real version I had to stop before it finished. I ended up restoring my computer to factory and then installed the clean Yosemite. I then tried to go and restore my last back up from my Time Machine, which had a lot of photos and stuff that was on my physical computer but I can't seem to get it to work. Can someone tell me if there is an easy way to use my Time Machine backup and get these pictures back? Or are those pictures lost?

1. Try using Finder and drag to copy rather than the Time Machine UI (loads of people seem to be having problems)

2. Report the problem http://www.apple.com/feedback/

Ok so go under finder and how do I do it? The photos are all somewhere on the Time Machine.

  • Start at the volume you have been using for the TM backups
  • Select for Backups.backupdb
  • Select for your machine whatever its called, something like 'John Does Mac', there should only be one folder if you have only been backing up one mac
  • Select for the folder with the latest date/time
  • Select the volume your iPhoto library was on
  • Select the folder in which you stored your library (normally iPhoto)
  • Select whatever you called your iPhoto library (normally My Photos)
  • Copy it to where you want to it to be
  • Same process to copy back any referenced photos (i.e. those outside the iPhoto Library)
  • Open iPhotos and make it reference the library you just copied back
