Ok, so I have never had Apple File Sharing turned on.
Just now, when I went to power down my computer (G4 powerbook running OSX.4.11), I got a message saying something like "Another user is connected to you via Apple File Sharing. Are you sure you want to shut down?"
What? I have gone out of my way to make sure that sharing is not enabled. And so, sure enough, I went to System Prefs and Personal File Sharing was enabled. I turned it off.
My question is: would someone have to proactively sign on to share files with me, or is it possible that my roommate's computer automatically "found" my computer to share with? Also, how could it have been turned on? Is there a way that an outside user could have done this? Our WiFi network is password protected.
I don't want to be paranoid, but I do live in New York City and would be really bummed to discover that all day someone could have been spying on my financial transactions, etc.
Thanks in advance for your help...
