Help unlocking iPhone 3G on 3.1.3 05.12.01

Hi,

I am trying to unlock an iPhone 3G on 3.1.3 (7E18) with baseband 05.12.01 using Mac

What is the easiest way to do this, and is there a permanent unlock for this phone

There are so many different guides that all have different instructions, I just got so confused and I don't want to screw it up

Should I be updating to a more recent version that can be unlocked?

all you need is Iclarified jailbreak http://www.iclarified.com/jailbreak/iphone3g/mac.php?firmware=3.1.3

unlock http://www.iclarified.com/unlock/iphone3g/mac.php?firmware=3.1.3&baseband=05.12.01

When I try using Redsn0w 0.9.4 it gets stuck at 'Waiting for reboot'
and if I try to use Pwnagetool it never detects the phone at the DFU stage, If I manually put it into DFU mode, and attempt to restore from custom firmware then it say it's and invalid firmware file.

Not sure what else to do..

I used Spirit to Jailbreak and Redsn0w to unlock, haven't been able to test the unlock yet but it should work..

FYI, there is no permanent software unlock. The only permanent unlock is from the factory or your carrier (i.e., be careful when you update or you'll lose your unlock).

I hope it is typo in your post because redsn0w is a jailbreak tool (not unlocking tool). So, you will have to install ultrasn0w from Cydia to unlock your phone.
