Help! Voice Memo in Old 3GS phone No Longer Working After iOS5 update!!!

Voice Memo worked flawlessly before updating to ios5...now that ive updated my old 3gs to ios5 (using 3gs as ipod touch) the voice memo no longer works properly. it constantly freezes when i press the record button thereby rendering it useless.

any remedies?
