Hi,
Question about iPad 3 sound input. I am trying bypass the iPads built-in mic by connecting my iPad directly into a mixer that has a microphone and instrument plugged into it either via 1/8 input or Dock (doesn't matter to me).
Here are the specifics in of exactly my setup and cords i'm using:
- iPad 3
- TC Helicon Voicelive Touch - This is essentially a mixer that I plug my guitar and microphone into. It is powered on it's own and I have the option of sound output via the headphone jack (1/8 inch) or a normal TRS out (1/4 inch)
Option #1 - Using the Dock
I tried coming out of the TC Helicon headphone jack and going into the ipad dock using the following items:
- Ipad Dock to USB connector ... http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B009V4BF9Q/ref=oh_details_o01_s00_i00
- USB to 1/8 cord ... http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B006D7Z69E/ref=oh_details_o00_s00_i00
Option #2 - Heaphone 1/8 jack
I tried coming out of the TC helicon and going straight into the headphone jack using a 1/8 cord that should be microphone compatible (3 rings on the plug end)

I have tried both of these options using the iPads video camera to record and using Facetime.
1st, is the iPad even capable of this type of input? It seems like it is, i found a video on youtube of a similar setup but not exact.
2nd ... is this just an application issue? in other words is it just the video recording app and facetime that doesn't allow for audio input other than with the built in mic?
Anyone ever come out of a mixer and into an Ipad or have any suggestions for me?
Thanks in advance, all!
