I have a g4 1.33ghz superdrive 12" powerbook w/ 256mb ram memory. I want to upgrade memory so should I buy another 256mb for the expansion slot or should I get the 512mb since the main ram chip is soldered in. please help me and give best advice for aftermarket chips if any, thanks, B.

You most DEFINITELY want at LEAST another 512MB.

I got my gig stick from OWC, but there are many other options. Just make sure you order from somewhere that knows it's for a 12" PB (most will have forms with that option).

The 3 most common sites I see talked about on this forum are Crucial & OWC, as mentioned above, as well as www.datamem.com.
I checked all 3 and 512MB is ~$56 at OWC & DataMem ($69 at Crucial).
If you can afford it, go w/the 1GB, but that's ~$140 at both OWC & DataMem ($220 at Crucial).
They all guarantee compatability & all offer lifetime replacement.
So it partially depends on your budget.

In any case, I think you'll appreciate a nice boost in performance!
Good luck!

Get the full gig. Prices are about as cheap as they're gonna get for this kind of RAM and 512 is nice, but not great. Max out now and save yourself from a future expense. I say this as an owner of your exact Powerbook with 768 MB RAM.
