Hello:

PBI#: 125532
Iteration: ...///2022.1/WatchOS/App/Fitness/West_Covina/Sprint 23
Tags: Needs grooming, QA, WatchOS
Release Notes: Unknown

Watch: 4th gen (cellular model, but never bought a plan) stainless w/WatchOS 8.3
Phone: 2020 iPhone SE w/iOS 15.2

Steps to Reproduce: Start a workout, then right after the countdown, the watch displays pause workout notification. If I dismiss the notification, workout will continue for a couple of minutes, then pause again. Rinse, repeat.

Details: This started happening this morning on my daily walk (but did not happen yesterday or previous workouts before that).

Remediation:
I Googled the issue, didn't find any solutions that worked.
I searched this AW sub-forum, but didn't find any similar issues.
I turned off the auto-pause option.
I wore the watch at tightest band setting.
I wore the watch at a looser band setting.
I rinsed off back of watch.
I restarted watch twice.
I tested other workout types (same issue).
I unpaired and re-paired watch.
I do not not have any tattoos.
I did not suddenly grow snake or lizard skin (which is good for saving throws vs Dark Drive).

Speculation: I'm wondering if there is a sensor/hardware failure. I wonder because I continued my walk without enabling a workout, and watch never auto prompted to start one (usually does if I'm walking briskly). If this is a hardware issue, that would suck, as I was hoping to keep this watch going until next year's model goes on sale. Sigh. Regardless, bottom line is that my watch does not want me to do a workout. wtf.

Question/Help: Any other ideas or suggestions? Should I do a complete reset/reinstall of WatchOS?

Thanks....!

as mentioned, does the heart rate app work? also, does ECG work? is it counting active calories and exercise minutes (should do that without a workout)

Sounds to me like maybe an accelerometer issue or a GPS problem (does the Watch count steps and records the track?)

1. Just tested ECG app, works fine.
2. I continued my walk after giving up on Fitness app, and noted that it did continue to track my steps/distance/time. Exercise ring was closed and Move ring indicated usual amount of calories.
3. GPS seems to be tracking my route.

Very weird.

ECG is not used during workout, you should try the pulse app.

I'd contact Apple support ...

Well, I did a one hour walk this morning and the workout app didn't pause. So maybe re-pairing worked? Hm.
