I am trying to find the cause of a white screen on a 15" Macbook Pro late 2009. Keyboard is unresponsive and the computer does not boot but makes the boot chime sound. I am lost as to what it could be. I would of had done a hardware test but the keyboard is not funcitoning well (extremely slow response) trackpad is not working. I swapped HD and the problem persists.

When you try to boot -
Does the sleep light (on the front edge of your MBPro) flash?
or is it lit without flashing?

If the sleep light is flashing, try reseating the memory sticks.

Can you boot into single-user mode (restart, while holding command-S)
You should boot to a screen with text scrolling down.
Type fsck -fy
press enter. That will run a quick check of your hard drive.
If that completes, type mount -uw /
press enter again.
When that completes, type exit, press enter to continue to a normal system.
