Help...why is this happening??

I switched from my ip6 to a Droid. For some reason all the Apple people that text me is still sending texts to my iPad over iMessage. I send text from Droid, but when they respond it goes to my iPad. I had a friend turn iMessage off and it came to my phone. How do I stop this?
