Hey

So I've had my iPod for months now, and it's worked. Until yesterday. Basically, Windoze XP has stopped recognizing that I've hooked the iPod up to my computer. Itunes won't see it, and it doesn't show up as a disc drive.

I run it off the USB 1.x port, and I don't have a firewire port. I can still charge the iPod using the power adapter and my wall. When I plug the USB in, it will say the iPod is charging, but it doesn't actually charge.

So does anyone have an idea why this would be happening? Yes, I know Windows sucks but its all I have. Not having USB 2.0 hasn't been a problem, I've been able to update songs since I got the thing after Christmas.

Any help would be great.

EDIT: I've also bought a new USB cord, and it will does the same thing.
Cheers.

Wow this happend to me an Hour ago with my iPod and XP. Try restarting your computer it worked for me.

I have restarted, numerous times. But I'll give it another try. No harm a figure.

You can fix it in three words....
Buy a Mac :p ;)

Yeah, but until I come up with $2600 I'm stuck with what I've got, and I'd like to use my iPod...

And restarting didn't work.

EDIT: Neither did the iPod reset (holding menu and select). Grr!
EDIT2: My other computer, also XP recognizes the iPod. So the trouble is with my piece of ***** laptop.

Glad you got it working again :)

If it happens again, try unplugging all other usb devices except for the iPod. Sounds like your iPod wasn't getting enough power.

Btw: What kind of iPod do you have?

PC & Mac

this also happen to my ipod (4th gen 20gig) i tried to connect my ipod to both my pc, mac but it didnt respond to either so i reset the ipod and now its fine

until the next time the ipod starts to feel cute.... ;)

It was the damndest thing. I don't run any other USB devices at the same time as the iPod. The only other thing I use is my camera, and I've never had this problem.

I did the iPod reset a bunch of times, and still nothing worked. It was literally I plugged it in at a random time and it started to work.

I've got a 20gig iPod, not sure which generation it is. I got is just after this past Christmas.
