hey,

I just got a 3rd generation ipod from my friend at school for 20 bucks. So I go to charge it in my car using just a regular charger, something like this, and it wouldn't charge. So I know they somehow changed the type of connector starting with the 4g ipod, and I was wondering what the difference is and where I could get a charger that would work with the old ipods. Thanks a lot!

You must have a Firewire to Dock Connector Cable. Many chargers still use the 12V of the Firewire system. Yours must use the 5V of the USB system. You can use USB data to sync, but MUST use Firewire to charge.

thanks a lot, I knew it was something with different voltages, appreciate the help!

20 bucks! Nice!

ya I know, he wasn't really sure if it worked and hadn't used it in like a year, I just plugged it in and it worked fine, although the battery only lasts about 2 hours, maybe less.
