Help with Airport Extreme extending an exisiting wireless network

So, I'm unfortunately living in campus housing for grad school this semester, and my apartment only has Wifi, no ethernet connection. Can the Airport Extreme extend an existing wireless network (picking up the campus wifi), or do I have to have a wired connection to it to use it at all? Thanks
