Hi all, could you please help with a problem which the Genius Bar couldn’t fix.

i have an Apple Watch Series 5 with cellular, IPhone 7, and Apple Music.

After a lot of playing around I have figured out that my watch with only play new music through the IPhone and not any Bluetooth headphones.

eg, I have left My phone at home while I run, I select a play list manually (which is not downloaded to my watch), but half way through I decided to ask siri to play an artist ‘Hey siri, play ACDC’ the watch responds by “there is no bluetooth device connected” then continues to play the original songs through my Bluetooth headphones.

so when I get home my phone is connected to my watch, I ask for the same thing ‘Hey siri, play ACDC’ and it then plays through my phone speaker, so I then have my watch playing in my headphones and a different song playing loud On my phone.

So to confirm if I am out and ask my watch to play a specific artist via Siri, I will be walking round with my pocket playing while my headphones are playing something different.

we have tried.

updating all software.
multiple bluetooth devices.
unpairing and repairing the device.
resetting the cellular plan.
playing with all settings involved, eg bluetooth.
spoken to apple support online chat/phone call.
Been in store to Genius Bar for over an hour.
Other people have tried this and had similar issues.

any one else having this issue or something similar.

thank you

My guess is that it’s due to your Apple Watch cellular restriction that prevents you from streaming new songs from the Apple Watch. Have you spoken to your carrier about that?
