I have a company phone in addition to my iPhone and the service is thru AT&T. Its a 3g tilt. Now I'd like to put my work phone sim card in my iPhone. I did this and it didn't work, it wouldnt connect to the service. Could someone please help with this?

Sorry, but I believe that unless the iPhone is jailbroken you MUST use the SIM card that came with the iPhone in it. Once it is activated normally (not jailbroken) you can use the iPhone's SIM card in other phones, but you still cannot use other phone's SIM cards in the iPhone. This was a big deal when we first found out about it right after the initial release.
