Hi Everyone,

I've been backing upto a Drobo with 5.4 TB of usable space via Time Machine for a while, but im not happy with the amount of time Time Machine spends organising its backups or the fact it backs up items already backed up if they're name changes.

I store alot of large files (about 2TB of files 10-20GB each) and if i move them or change their names its adds alot of time to a backup (sometimes they can take a day or two) This is a big deal for me as my Drobo is noisy as hell and i try to keep it switched on and backing up whilst im at work.

My idea so far has been to exclude the larger files from the Time Machine backup, store them together and back them up less often to a disc image file on the Drobo using Carbon Copy Cloner. Then backup the rest of my files using Time Machine to the Drobo.

The main issue i've had with this that my Drobo crashes when formatting in the Lion Disc Utility, and the Drobo Dashboard isnt flexible when creating partition sizes (meaning i cant create a separate partition on the Drobo for Time Machine).

If theres anyone out there with Lion and a Drobo who has had to deal with a similar issue? If so i'd really appreciate any help or insight. Thanks
