I was interested in buying a WP7 phone from Microsoft. The thing is, I have an upgrade for the primary line (no data plan currently) and would like to get a new phone using that upgrade it and switch it to another line on my family account (that currently is on a data plan). I know you can do this when you buy a phone from Verizon, but here are the terms on the MS Website.

Clarification/Explanation would be very helpful:

"Discounts will be invalid if the original rate plan selected is changed to a lower monthly service rate, or if equipment is transferred to another line of service."
 
this is one of those times it would be best to go talk with a carrier at a store. They generally know the rules better than most of us but I know in the past they had no issues using upgrade from any of the other lines on a family plan even when those lines were not smart phone lines (upgrading to a smart phone_
