hi there!
i'm wondering to buy a new iMac 27'' but i have a dilema and i thought you guys can help me.

iMac 27'' Quad core 2.66ghz, 4Gb, 1Tb, Ati 512Mb

or

iMac 27'' Core 2 Duo 3.06ghz, 8Gb, 1 Tb, Ati 512Mb

which one is better?

regards.

Could you please tell us your usage? It's very hard to help if you give no sign about your needs and possible apps you are going to use

so i will run:

dreamweaver, photoshop, cinema4d, flex, flash that kind of apps

and i usually play WoW.

"Better" is a relative term...

However, look at it this way: the two significant differences are the number of cores, and the amount of RAM. The clock speeds, while different, are less of a noticeable change.

You CAN add more RAM to the 4GB configuration. I believe the max is 16GB.

You CAN'T change the processor to add more cores. Not without buying a new iMac, that is...

I'd go for the quad core with 4GB RAM, and add RAM (from an aftermarket vendor) later. 4GB will get you through 6 months of usage or so, before you'll be looking to improve things.

(I'd probably be fine with 4 for longer. I'm running a 2.33 C2D MBP with 3gigs of RAM...)

thanks a lot for the opinion.

yes i was thinking in buy the quad core and later add more ram if needed.

I can understand going with i5 and not i7. But why on earth would you not wait until i5 and go with c2d?

I'd probably grab i7. Providing that hdmi->mini displayport adapter from belkin or someone else will be ready...

I have been weighing this continuously since the announcement.
Keep coming back to the i5 with the quad cores and the 4850/512
graphics card. Best bang for the buck as I see it.

I'd wait and check out the benchmarks and review of the i5 quad-core and ati4850 27" imac.
