help with connecting to pc wirelessly

hey guys so i set up the homegroup on my pc and when i access it as a guest it works perfectly fine on the mac
but when i have password protected it asks me for the registered user and password when i enter it says ' YOu entered an invalid username or password"
i have checked the password in the homegroup on windows 7 and the username i am getting it from the start menu and entering it how it should be entered what am i doing wrong and why wont it connect ?
