Help with external harddrive

okay so I have a maxtor 100gb external hard drive I only have 10 gbs on it which is music off my pc I plug the hard drive into my macbook and none of the files show up. the hard drive mounts but when I click the icon on the desktop my files aren't in it, but the music files show up on my pc. Please help

How was the disk initialized? I'm pretty sure you need FAT for read/write or NFS (?) for read-only. FAT's the way to go.

Oops, sorry. Just read your post more closely.

Try zipping them onto the hard drive as one file if you cannot locate them, then unzip onto the Mac. Unless they start with a period, they should show up on your Mac.

Alternatively, you can connect an ethernet cable between the two and mount the PC's hard drive on your Mac for the copy.

Try to initialize as FAT32 and see if that fixes your problem.

Connect your drive to your Mac, launch Disk Utilities and initialize it as an MS-DOS (FAT) volume. Put it on your PC and move the files over to it, then reconnect to your Mac.
