Help with Facebook app

I have tried to make the popping chat sound go away in FB, but I can't. I turned sounds off at the menu, and everything, but when someone writes in FB, I can still hear the popping sound. When I press the gear button, the only option I get is to turn the chat on or off. Can someone help me solve this issue?

Use the iPhone sound settings, silent/vibrate mode.

the only way to do it it seems is to unsubscribe from the mobile push for the messages. go into the FB app, account settings > notifications > mobile push > uncheck messages
