How can I have a clip paused (still frame) for roughly 5 seconds and then have it start playing afterwards? I am working on a project and the video supplied does not have enough time in it for me to insert livetype and logos, so I need to freeze the frame for that purpose and afterwards have it start playing.

Lots of Options

..but the simplest solution is to use your razor blade tool (command-B), slice out a three frame section exactly where you want the pause..
then select the resulting three-frame section, go to Modify-Speed from the menu bar, set speed at 0%, and hit enter...
trim the resulting "frozen" shot to the desired length.
Done.:D

great!

i will try that thanx! i wasn't sure if it would be as simple as slicing part of the film, rather than having pause and play

or you could go to the frame and goto the modify menu and click make freeze frame then drag it on your timeline.
