Hello--I hooked up my old IMac and my new G4 computer and just like the book said, the hard drive showed up on the IMac destop, and I was able to click and drag materials from the IMac into a new folder I created in the hard drive and in about ten minutes it all copied.

So I dragged the icon of the hard drive into the trash and shut down both computers like the book said, and then disconnected the cable.

But...when I started my G4 up again, it did not display its hard drive. I know it is there, because I repeated the process, and it still shows up when I fire-wire the two together, with all its contents (whew). It just won't display, nor will many of its applications launch, even though they appear on the dock.

Fortunately, Safari launched fine and so I am writing this on the G4. But, the Finder will not launch, nor will MS Word, MSExcel, etc.

Have any of you experienced such a problem? I went to MacHelp online but could find no such problem under troubleshooting Firewire. I suspect it may have to do with the Norton autoprotect (which is turned off but may be sneaking in) virus protection, which got tired of scanning, because
that icon appears on the screen where the hard drive used to? Do you have a suggestion?

Thanks!
