Hello all.

Looking to buy firewire for both my MBP and iMac (21.5").
For my MBP, I am looking for 4 pin firewire, is this correct?
Can someone confirm if the iMac also is 4 pin as well?
It is still in the box till I set up my office, LOL.

The camcorder I have is the JVC miniDV GR-D395U.
There is a DV I-link slot on the camcorder and If I've done my homework correctly, the fire wire I am looking for is this:

4P Firewire

Thanks everyone!

Your iMac has FW800, which has 9 pins; your MBP also has FW800 and might have also FW400 (models prior to October 2008), which has 6 pins.

A DV camera has normally 4 pins, the FW port on those cameras is also called DV Out or iLink (Sony).

You need this cable

Only cameras have the four pin connectors. All other FW devices have 6 pins. You need a cable with the right connector on each end. The cables are common.

The extra two pins are for power. The 6 pin jack on the mack can power a disk or over device over the FW cable. Camera can not supply power to connected devices so they only have the 4 data pins

Not sure if this will help out or not, but my MBP is a 17' which I got
April of 09. If I read up correctly, then I do have FW800.

Thanks for the link Spinnerlys!
