What I want to know is how you would get users to be active in a forum. I understand I will be doing alot of posting myself but are there other ways to get people to use your site?

You need to have things that interest people, things people want to talk about.

What is your forum about?

A good topic is one thing, but having a constant stream of new and interesting information added to the site that draws readers back again and again is what will really make it successful. The old phrase of "keep 'em coming back for more" directly applies.

Also remember that most sites user base grows slowly. A site like MacRumors didn't just get the 300,000 or so registered members it has today. It takes time. In a time when people are used to things happening instantly it helps to remember that some things in life just take time to earn.

Good luck to you!

What are your goals for your Forum? What is motivating "you"?
If it is just to grow a big Forum, that will be difficult
If it is to accomplish some bigger purpose, that will help

Find your own motivations first and then share your dreams
