help with HP printer 3100 series

I am using an hp printer (3100 series) connected to a macbook with a USB and suddenly the printer will only print in black and white. I went thru tech support with hp and there is nothing wrong with the printer. I uninstalled the printer and then reinstalled it and still it is not working. I did a test page and made a color copy and the printer is working properly.
