Help with Imovie

I am trying to convert old VHS to DVD but I am having a problem trying to figure how to use the Imovie program to edit the video once I imported to my computer from the VCR machine.

My biggest problem is editing and cutting the unwanted frames


I have not found any easy instructions how to do this, any ideas

How have you imported your VHS footage to your Mac? What format are the movie files?
