Help with importing songs without automatically checking them

I often collect music off other people and then merge their collection with mine in a vain attempt to keep it organised... The problem I have is that when I drag the whole collection into itunes (to put the new songs in it without having to do them individually), they automatically check themselves with a tick. When there are a lot of songs- as there often is- I have to then go through itunes and uncheck them one by one if I do not want them to be synced to my ipod, which is both frustrating and time consuming...

Id there any way I can set up itunes so that this does not happen and it just imports them without checking them?
