Help with iPhone contacts syncing..

Whenever I sync my contacts from my iPhone to the iTunes Contacts folder through google email really old contacts that I deleted ages ago show up in my contacts folder, along with duplicates. All I want to do is put the contacts that are on my iPhone to my gmail & iTunes, I don't want old contacts I deleted years ago. Can anyone help me with this?
