Is the stick formatted as fat32 or ntfs?

If it's ntfs that is your issue. Use your Mac to format the stick as exfat then plug into your windows machine and try again

OS X can read FAT32 and NTFS formatted volumes with no problem, which is all the OP needs to transfer files from PC to Mac.

Try formatting your USB drive on the Mac as FAT32. Then plug it into your Windows PC and load your pics. Then try plugging it into your Mac to retrieve them.

Although this may be true I have had trouble with ntfs formatted drives in the past hence the advice to rule it out.

Thanks, it is formatted as fat32. My mac is still not recognizing the usb.

Did you re-format it from the Mac, as suggested?

Yes. This and I get the same massage Unreadable Files.

The following file could not be imported. The file is in a unrecognized format.

I just don't get it because I'm able to view it on my windows pc but not on my mac.
