I recently got an iPhone 4. First I setup my Yahoo Mail account on it and used it for a couple of days. I understood perfectly how to use it.
Today, I setup my Charter Communications POP account on my iPhone. Charter is my cable modem provider. I easily entered my name, email address and password and I logged in just fine. I sat at my iMac and sent a test email to myself and it immediately appeared on my iPhone. Weird I thought since I have fetch setup to check for new mail only every hour.
Then I tried to get the new mail that I sent to myself on Apple Mail on my iMac. I got an error message that said that another client was presently using my Charter mail account. I could not get new messages off of my Charter account on POP Mail on my iMac until I temporarily turned off the Charter account on my iPhone.
When I checked my account settings on my iPhone it became obvious that a Charter IMAP account had been created and my host name and SMTP name were both mobile.charter.net. Not pop.charter.net and SMTP.charter.net like they are on my Mail account on my iMac. I didn't even know Charter offered IMAP accounts. I thought the POP account I had was the way Charter mail was setup.
The icing on the cake came when I looked in my Sent folder on my Charter mail account on my iPhone. I had some messages there from as far back as 2004 even though my settings on Apple Mail with my Charter account have always specified to remove mail from server after one month!!
I am somewhat confused now. Will my iMac's Mail Charter POP account always be locked out if I have IMAP Charter mail activated on my iPhone? Can I create a POP Charter mail account instead on my iPhone?
Please help. Thanks.
