I downloaded and installed the newest version of iTunes around a month ago...and for some reason it won't save my library! Right when I open it, It says something about how the file iTunes.itl cannot be found...a new one has been created in it's place... even though I can see the file perfectly and it's there...then after I create a new library by adding all my songs and videos again...it says The iTunes music library file cannot be saved. An unknown error occured. (-1450).

I need help...I've tried reinstalling iTunes like 8 times...

Are you on a Mac or a PC? Do you have correct permissions to write to the folder that holds the iTunes.itl file? :)

1450 fix

looked all over and eventually found a fix at least for PC's on a blog from LatinLover.

i am going for a week now with no return of the message.

prior to my trying this fix i had tried everything i had seen on these discussions. whether advised or not, i had deleted all previous libraries. i had also backed up all my music files to another drive (although I don't think it was necessary)

latin lover wrote this slightly differently in terms of prompts, but i made notes on the way i did it. (i run windows XP home edition. i have the newest iTunes 7.xxx as i had deleted all my previous iTunes versions) i think you can do whatever prep you want just don't erase music files!! and for those even more clueless than me this means the don't erase theiTunes Music folder and any other downloaded music files; those that might be in emusic or mp34u folders. (mp3, mp4, vbr, mpeg, AAC and protected AAC etc.) just don't delete any files or folders anywhere other than your damaged itunes Library file.

here goes:

close iTunes
rightclick my computer
select properties
select advanced tab
select performance settings button
select advanced tab
second box down is Memory Usage
uncheck system cache
check programs.

that is it!
:D

Snapyo,

Thats an interesting fix, particularly because Programs being checked is the DEFAULT windows setting.

Something you installed must have changed it. Crazy. Interesting that windows would let such a critical setting be changed during the install of an app.

Fixed

Just did a system restore, for the PC users you will be kept in the dark because it is a Mac program, this doesn't "fix" the problem but it will get iTunes working like it is supposed to. if this happens from the very start i cant help sorry.
for those using windows XP system restore is located in
start menu-all programs-accessories-system tools-system restore.
