help with jailbreak

im trying to jailbreak my ipad 1 using redsn0w.

at the start it says make sure ur device is powerd off. my ipad wont seem to turn off when plugged into my mac, turns itself back on straight away.

im new to the jailbreaking world and could do with abit of help.

Leave it unplugged. Put iPad into dfu mode, then plug it in

i cant seem to get it in dfu mode when not plugged in.

the apple logo just comes bk on like its booting up?

Ok, when it's on:
hold both the power and the home button
Count to 10 seconds, then release the power button with the home button still in hold
Then wait 5 to 10 seconds and release the home button
