Help with jailbreaking 2g

So my father bought a new iphone and wanted to give his old 2g to my nephew to play games on. Basically just making it a itouch for him. Well my dad thought he would wipe off everything and reset the phone. So now it is back to factory so iTunes wants me to activate it and the iPhone is at the "emegency call only" stage. Any suggestions what I can do? Sorry if this is a stupid question, but I am at a loss...
