Help with Laptop cooler

We just bought our daughter a MacBook Pro 1.83 refurb and she loves it. I am going to put in an Gig stick of ram to make it work even better. Now the only problem is the laptop heat problem. She had an iBook and while it got warm, it is nothing like the MPB and she likes working with the unit in her lap. I know some seem to like the iLap, but it doesn't have fans, so does it work just as well to keep it cool? I know that Compusa carries the Targus Chill pad and the Antec Notebook Cooler and some other fan laptop coolers, but can you use those on your lap as well? Any help would be swell!

for me, i tend to hate usb-coolers.

these are meant to be on the lap, so it's comfortable to use, and it dosen't whir or anything.

Thanks! This may be a stupid question, but do the fans keep it cooler and if so, is there a unit with fans that you can use on your lap? The iLap is more expensive, but it is one that I can get locally at CompUSA.
