Help with Linksys WRT54GS

I've searched this website (and many, many others) to help with my problem, yet I've failed to come up with anything.

My father uses a Linksys WRT54GS wireless router and it suddenly stopped working (on a Windows XP machine). No internet is transferred through ethernet or wireless, but the machines are 'connected' to the network. So, I tried to work with it on my MacBook, but I've come across the same problems. I've made sure the firmware is up to date, but nothing is working. I've pinged the original IP address (on the machine running the router) and the IP of a computer connected through wireless, and they came back ok.

This is the second time this problem has occurred -- once before on the first version of the product, and just last week with the newest version of the product. I'm trying to get both working so that I can take one when I move back to my apartment.

Any help is greatly appreciated!!

(p.s. -- I've been using the setup using "http://192.168.1.1" in Firefox and Safari)

Hard-reset the router. See if it comes up after that. It varies by model and revision number, but usually 30 seconds of reset button followed by pulling the A/C power does the trick (while still holding the button).

I'd install DD-WRT on it, assuming you can. It's far more reliable and configurable than the stock firmware. Linkety

I've tried the hard reset three or four times.

I will try DD-WRT now and see what happens...thanks.

I have decided to not install DD-WRT as I'm not very comfortable doing so unless it is a last resort. If anyone has any other suggestions, please let me know ...
