Hi, hoping you can help with a problem I'm having. We recently re-activated an older iPhone 5S on our account that our son brings with him to school. With Find My, I'm able to keep an eye on him as he's walking home/to school with a group of kids, and I usually arrive home from work a few minutes after.

For some reason, after about 3-4 hours, the data signal gets disconnected. When he's leaving school, I've learned that it is showing the network as 1X. He's tried to do the airplane mode on/off cycle, and that tends to change it to LTE, but it still won't let him use data. I've tested it at home by disabling the WiFi on the iPhone and it does in fact connect to cellular data (and the "cellular usage" section of the Cellular setting page seems to corraborate this)...

Any idea what's going on here? Any special setting I should be focusing on?

We're using Verizon, and the phone/sim have been activated. His number works for outgoing and ingoing calls. I am going to try to disable iMessage and "force" the use of SMS as I believe that portion of the cellular network is working correctly.

Thanks,
Pilot
